Abstract
Democratization involves the transition from a non-democratic regime into a democratic one. This chapter reviews some of the dominant theoretical perspectives of this phenomenon, including the ‘waves’ theory, economic approaches, cultural approaches, and transition approaches. Each of these approaches is accompanied by a section on how they could be applied on the democratization of Hong Kong.
