This working paper forms part of MISTRA’s priority research project on Youth and National Development that explores the role that youth can and do play in national development, and the challenges and possibilities for the future. The working paper explores the pandemic’s impact on the lives of youth (18–35 years old) in South Africa, especially in terms of labour market and mental health outcomes in the periods before and during the COVID-19-related lockdown.
