The National Income Dynamics Study-Coronavirus Rapid Mobile Survey (NIDS-CRAM) was a telephonic follow up survey of a sub-sample of household residents from NIDS Wave 5 (2017). The NIDS CRAM survey was conducted during the pandemic period in South Africa in 2020-2021. The survey collected data on employment, hunger, migration, grant-receipt and demographics, as well as COVID-19 risk perceptions and behaviour. There were five waves of the NIDS-CRAM panel survey which followed the same individuals across three waves in 2020 (waves 1-3) and two waves in 2021 (waves 4-5). The survey data will provide policy-makers and the public with rapid, reliable panel data on key measures of individual and household welfare during the pandemic. The survey is funded by Allan and Gill Gray Philanthropy, the FEM Education Foundation and the Michael and Susan Dell Foundation. The NIDS-CRAM Working Papers and further information are available on the project website.
